Collection: Partridgewood

Partridgewood (Wacapou), Vouacapoua americana, is a precious wood from French Guiana. Very popular in Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries as veneer, it was known in French as "épi de blé" (wheat ear) or "bois perdrix". Internationally it is called Sucupira or Partridgewood.

It is a dense wood with a very fine grain and a subtle camphor / menthol scent. It is pleasant to work and takes a superb polish. Its grain is much finer than that of Wenge, which is fairly close in colour.

It is well suited to lutherie (fingerboards, tops, backs and sides), knifemaking, woodturning, jewellery making...
