Collection: Indian Ebony fingerboards

All our Indian Ebony fingerboards, the "true ebony", Diospyros ebenum.

Indian Ebony has a finer grain than its West African cousin. As with all ebonies, perfectly black wood, known as "jet black", makes up only a few percent of total production. It therefore often comes in more marbled, less uniform shades, so that the whole production can be put to good use.

A particularity of Indian Ebony is that it may sometimes show small "mineral spots", tiny white marks. This is not a defect but a characteristic of this wood.

At Bois Canon we sort our Indian Ebony into 3 grades, A, B and C. Grade A is normally free of mineral marks, while B or C may have a few. Grade A wood is generally blacker and more even than the lower grades.
