Patawa, Oenocarpus bataua, is a tall forest palm from French Guiana.

It produces a very dense, beautifully contrasted "wood", with black fibres standing out against a white background.

Patawa is the most sought-after palm wood. Opinel even made an ultra-limited series with this iconic species.

The wood is very dense (1.10) and does not always need stabilising.
