Collection: Cumaru

Cumaru (Gaïac de Cayenne), Dipteryx odorata, is a large tree of northern Amazonia, found in the eastern forests of French Guiana. It is the tree that produces tonka beans, small, highly fragrant seeds prized in pastry making.

Its wood is very hard and very durable. It is difficult to work because of its marked interlocked grain, but takes a superb polish once machined. Its hardness makes it ideal for rugged knife handles or for turning small objects.
