Collection: Curly Maple

Curly maple (also called flamed maple) is a figure found in some maple trees.

The curls, small "waves" in the grain, reflect light and absorb dyes in a particular way, which makes it a very attractive wood.

The mechanisms that produce figured wood are still poorly understood, but the phenomenon occurs in many European and exotic trees (ash, walnut, massaranduba, iroko, ebony...).

It is highly prized in cabinetmaking and lutherie, mainly for guitar tops and necks.
