Massaranduba (Balata), also called "Bois Abeille", is a dense wood from Amazonia. It was widely used to make violin bows under the name "Bois Abeille".

A pinkish wood tending towards brown, it is very dense and an excellent tonewood. It is an excellent wood for knife handles, as it is very hard and naturally rot-resistant.
